Long prothorax, raptorial forelegs, wing venation patterns<\/p>\n<p><strong data-start=\"426\" data-end=\"435\">Taxon<\/strong>: cf. <em data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"454\">Mantispidae<\/em> (Neuroptera: Hemerobiformia)<br data-start=\"483\" data-end=\"486\" \/><strong data-start=\"486\" data-end=\"498\">Locality<\/strong>: Hukawng Valley, Kachin State, Myanmar<br data-start=\"537\" data-end=\"540\" \/><strong data-start=\"540\" data-end=\"556\">Stratigraphy<\/strong>: Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian (~99 Ma)<br data-start=\"595\" data-end=\"598\" \/><strong data-start=\"598\" data-end=\"615\">Specimen Code<\/strong>: UI-G-07-25<\/p>\n<p><strong>Morphological Details:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"674\" data-end=\"683\"><strong data-start=\"674\" data-end=\"682\">Head<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"686\" data-end=\"873\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"686\" data-end=\"793\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"688\" data-end=\"793\">Orthognathous (forward-facing), with large compound eyes and visible multi-segmented antennae (filiform).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"873\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"798\" data-end=\"873\">Mandibles and palps are visible in some images but distorted by resin flow.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"875\" data-end=\"1090\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"891\"><strong data-start=\"877\" data-end=\"890\">Prothorax<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"1090\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"894\" data-end=\"994\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"896\" data-end=\"994\">Elongated, narrow, characteristic of <strong data-start=\"933\" data-end=\"948\">mantidflies<\/strong> and other ambush predators within Neuroptera.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"997\" data-end=\"1090\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"999\" data-end=\"1090\">This region acts like a &#8220;neck,&#8221; allowing extended mobility of the head and raptorial limbs.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1092\" data-end=\"1313\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1107\"><strong data-start=\"1094\" data-end=\"1106\">Forelegs<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1110\" data-end=\"1313\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1110\" data-end=\"1231\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1112\" data-end=\"1231\">Modified into <strong data-start=\"1126\" data-end=\"1154\">raptorial grasping limbs<\/strong>, similar in form to mantids (Mantodea), but a defining trait of Mantispidae.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1234\" data-end=\"1313\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1236\" data-end=\"1313\">Coxa and femur are enlarged, tibia armed with spines, and tarsi appear short.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1315\" data-end=\"1531\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1327\"><strong data-start=\"1317\" data-end=\"1326\">Wings<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1330\" data-end=\"1531\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1330\" data-end=\"1425\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1332\" data-end=\"1425\">Two pairs of large membranous wings, with <strong data-start=\"1374\" data-end=\"1397\">reticulate venation<\/strong> consistent with Neuroptera.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1428\" data-end=\"1531\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1430\" data-end=\"1531\">The forewing extends well past the abdomen and appears intact, revealing costal field and crossveins.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1533\" data-end=\"1688\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1535\" data-end=\"1547\"><strong data-start=\"1535\" data-end=\"1546\">Abdomen<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1550\" data-end=\"1688\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1550\" data-end=\"1642\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1552\" data-end=\"1642\">Cylindrical and moderately elongate;
