Description
Partial Scorpion Metasoma in Mid-Cretaceous Burmese Amber
-
Amber: clear to cognac-brown Burmite cabochon; double-polished but crossed by a single healed fracture filled with modern epoxy (visible as the pale silver streak).
-
Inclusion: a well-defined scorpion . Five articulated segments plus a tail are discernible, oriented nearly vertical through the piece; faint outlines of the posterior mesosoma (pre-abdomen) lie just above the fracture.
-
Preservation grade: good contrast and segmentation; minor clouding along the fracture but the tail (80%+) itself remains crisp. No obvious decay halo, indicating rapid entombment.
-
Locality / Age: Hukawng Valley, Kachin State, Myanmar – Cenomanian (~99 Ma).
-
Dimensions / Weight: 29.2 × 17.5 × 7.7 mm; 12.54 ct.
-
Collectible note: Tail-only scorpion pieces are scarcer than complete insect inclusions and display well under back-lighting. The repaired crack is stable and does not traverse the fossilized tissue.
Offered as a scientifically significant display specimen and a striking conversation piece for any amber or arachnid fossil collection.
