Well preserved Cretaceous Burmite Feather Inclusion | uftr-008-25
$1,000.00
Description
This museum-quality piece features a large, well-defined feather inclusion. Given the mid-Cretaceous age of Burmite (~99 million years), this feather likely belonged to either an Enantiornithes (the most common group of prehistoric “opposite birds”) or a non-avian feathered dinosaur
Feather Morphology: The specimen shows a clear central rachis (shaft) with organized barbs branching outward. The presence of visible barbules (the microscopic “hooks” that hold a feather together) indicates a sophisticated evolutionary stage, potentially from a flight or contour feather.
Preservation: The feather retains its three-dimensional structure rather than being flattened, allowing for study from multiple angles. In some areas, subtle pigmentation (melanosomes) may be visible as dark or reddish-brown banding.
Amber Type: Genuine Burmite (Kachin Myanmar Amber, Hukawng Valley)
Geological Age: Mid-Cretaceous (~99 myo)
Primary Inclusion: Vertebrate Feather
Dimensions: 37×21.76×6.8 mm
Weight: 16.04
