Splayed scorpion in Cretaceous Burmite Kachin Amber
Taxon: Scorpiones indet. (Possibly Palaeoeuscorpiidae or Archaeoscorpiopinae)
Locality: Hukawng Valley, Kachin State, Myanmar
Stratigraphy: Upper Cretaceous, Cenomanian (~99 Ma)

Very clear yellow high quality amber inclusion featuring an incomplete but well preserved Burmite Kachin scorpion in amber. This is a prehistoric ancient scorpion with a preserved stinger.
Morphological characteristics:
Metasoma (tail):
Curved dorsally over the body, well-segmented, five segments + telson visible. The telson (stinger) is preserved in good detail, with possible remnants of the venom vesicle. Strong setae are visible along the metasomal segments, especially on the dorsal keel.
Pedipalps (claws):
Large, robust pedipalps are splayed to the sides, with tuberculate surfaces and visible trichobothria (sensory hairs), a trait common in both extant and extinct scorpions. The chelae (claws) are well developed and intact.
