Description

This specimen features a well-preserved worker ant belonging to the extinct genus Gerontoformica, one of the earliest and most evolutionarily important ant lineages known from the Cretaceous period. These ants represent stem-Formicinae, combining primitive and modern characteristics and giving unique insight into the early stages of ant evolution.
