Description

This is a very rare and irregular piece to discover within our Myanmar amber stock in Kachin State.

While wasps are on occasion found and collected in our private collection at the Kachin Amber Research Institute, it is not normal at all to discover this specimen because the insect itself is 10mm wide, which is very large and not at all easy to find stuck in the amber.

Amber is biased as a medium to storing small organisms because it is easier for them to be covered and encased in the resin before the fossilization process begins. This is why we do not see huge animals inside amber because more often than not they can remove themselves and prevent fossilization, or only a segment of the organism is entombed due to its size also.

We hope that you enjoy this very large, very rare and beautiful (menacing) Cretaceous wasp for your collection or discovery. We do not have name yet for species.
