This is a very large clear yellow burmite amber specimen dutifully collected unearthed and polished from Hukawng Valley in Tanaing Kachin State. The specimen is exceptionally bright and indeed it is not often collected of this quality.
As you will see in the images, one quadrant of this very large amber (see dimensions and weight) contains a curious organic inclusion likely to be plant material or biological remains. This particular specimen is a particularly beautiful example of Cretaceous era amber from the Hukawng Valley of Kachin State.
This specimen MI-l-02-25 has undergone two tests which KARI has exclusively made public for this piece.
Standard technological analysis:
– a rudimentary and standard image analysis. Using OpenCV python library for edge detection to emphasize intensity variation. (Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization [CLAHE])
– An in-house AI amber comparison. KARI-AMBER-AI image comparison against pre-trained Kachin Amber Research Institute collection images. Through the use of Cosine similarity. The model has compared images in the input amber embeddings against pre-encoded galleries ranking potential matches.
The combination of our two tests are used in conjunction with more advanced imaging technologies such as CT Scanning; though due to cost and manpower constraints, not all pieces of amber are scanned so thoroughly; as data reconstruction and interpretation is a costly enterprise in addition to the collection and analysis of our ambers from the Hukawng Valley.
